What if the AI gets something wrong?

What to do if the AI’s answer seems incorrect, and how to improve results.

AI isn't perfect

Instill is designed for accuracy—with page-level citations and grounding every answer in the original documents—but no AI system is 100% accurate.

If the result is unexpected:

  1. Check the citation: Click the source link to verify the original document says what the AI claims

  2. Refine the question: Be more specific, or narrow the scope with @mentions

  3. Check the Collection focus: Ensure the Collection contains relevant documents for the question

  4. Review column instructions: For the Tabular view, check that column descriptions clearly explain what to extract

Before

After

"Summarize this"

"Summarize the key financial terms, including payment amounts and due dates"

@Project

@Specific Collection

"Find risks"

"List clauses related to liability, indemnification, or termination penalties"

If something is clearly wrong:

  • The citation system makes errors easy to catch

  • Values in the Tabular view can be corrected manually

  • Contact support for persistent issues: [email protected]

Our approach: Show the source and let it be verified, rather than hide the AI's reasoning. Transparency builds trust.
